Be flexible on dates, compare the total price including bags, and set a price alert. The cheapest fares out of Singapore usually show up for a short time, so a tracker or a deal email catches them before you would have searched.
Open a fare calendar (Google Flights has one) and look at a whole month for your route. A fare that is cheap on a Tuesday can be double on the Friday. Moving a trip by a day or two is the biggest lever you control.
Low-cost carriers often leave out checked bags, seat choice and meals. Add what you will actually need before you compare against a full-service airline. A fare that looks cheaper can end up the same price or higher.
For some trips a different arrival airport in the same region is cheaper. Two one-way tickets on different airlines can also beat a return ticket. Check both before you book.
Google Flights can email you when the price on a route changes. It tracks the routes you pick. It does not tell you about trips you had not thought of.
A deal club watches many routes and writes to you only when a fare drops well under its normal price. Halfare does this for Singapore: when a fare out of Changi falls 50% or more below its usual price, we email the dates and a link to book. Join the free early list; a 7-day free trial and S$79 a year follow.
Changes and refunds are simpler when you hold the ticket with the airline instead of a third party.
It depends on the route and the season, and school holidays and public holidays push fares up. Compare a full month on a fare calendar for your route instead of trusting a single rule.
Sometimes two one-ways on different airlines cost less. Price both ways before you book.
They only help if the fare drops while you are watching and you are ready to book. They are free, so set one for every route you care about.
Halfare is for trips you did not search for. We email only fares that are 50% or more below the usual price for the route, with the dates and a booking link.
